Christiane Lange and Paul Robbrecht have worked together on three projects related to the architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.
In this lecture, they will discuss their joint exhibition project, Mies 1:1 The Golf Club Projects (projektmik.com/projekt-mik-filme), as well as the experiences of the Robbrecht architecture office in Daem in working on historic buildings and urban structures. They will also discuss their respective collaborations with artists in the context of architecture.
Christiane Lange M.A. is an art historian, curator, podcaster and president of the Initiative Projekt MIK e.V. In recent years, she has led research and exhibition projects, publications, documentary films for exhibitions and podcasts on the European work of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich, the Bauhaus and modernism. In her current podcast, "Collaboration And Architecture", she talks to experts about modernist buildings and the importance of collaborative processes in the design and realization of architecture, as well as the network of people who accompanied and influenced planning and construction. With Robbrecht en Daem, she produced the exhibition projects Mies & Reich. Furniture and Rooms, Krefeld 2007 and Mies 1: 1 The Golf Club Project, Krefeld 2013.
Paul Robbrecht, born in 1950, founded the firm Robbrecht en Daem architecten in Ghent with Hilde Daem in 1975. The consistent quality of their work is always the result of an in-depth architectural vision and careful consideration of proportions, materiality and the use of color. Thanks to this unique architectural language, Paul Robbrecht, Hilde Daem and Johannes Robbrecht are always in search of that extraordinary space, that unforgettable place. Their most important works include the Concertgebouw in Bruges, the Whitechapel Art Gallery in London, the reception building for the Rubenshuis in Antwerp and the new Brusk exhibition hall in Bruges. In addition to his architectural activities, Paul Robbrecht has taught at the KU Leuven Sint-Lucas and the AA School in London, among others.
Cycle
Proposed by architects and teachers Anne Klépal and Philippe Vander Maren, the Tuesday Lessons cycle About authorship & collaborations explores architecture as a collective and transdisciplinary practice, where hybridization and multiple collaborations profoundly redefine the making of the project and our ways of inhabiting the world.
